Favourite pieces for fashion enthusiasts with high standards
It's all about stripes! Lemlem is the ethical fashion label that model and actress Liya Kebede founded to support the web industry in her native Ethiopia. The New Yorker by choice combines traditional Ethiopian weaving art with New York fashion inspirations with her eye-catching creations.
Lemlem Clothing not only promotes Ethiopia's economic independence, but also delights the whole world with fantastic designs. Her signature look: neon horizontal stripes on a white background, airy gauze made from a cotton blend, wide cuts and lovely details such as knotted fringes or tassels.

For the love of her homeland
When top model Liya Kebede found out about the poor job situation of weavers in her home country Ethiopia due to low demand, she decided in 2007 to employ locally and traditionally trained weavers under the Lemlem label . She herself said she wanted to give the weavers the opportunity to show their art to the whole world. Using age-old techniques, they weave a cotton-blend gauze that feels light and airy and has a sheer look that's perfect for the warmer months. What started as a small label with a collection of airy summer scarves is now an internationally renowned fashion brand that includes tunics, kaftans, beach cover-ups, dresses, shoes, pants, interior and children's fashion. The model, who comes from the capital Addis Ababa, lives in New York with her husband and two children. She runs a studio for the label in the Chelsea district. However, Lemlem Clothing was not the model's first social commitment. Liya Kebede has been a UN Goodwill Ambassador for the World Health Organization (WHO) since 2005.
